TEMPERED GLASS VERSUS ANNEALED GLASS

Many customers ask us - What is the best choice? - Tempered Glass or Annealed Glass? There are pros and cons to both.  Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger than annealed (regular) glass, but is just as sensitive around the edges as  annealed glass.  Tempered glasswill resistant more heat thanannealed glass.  Tempered glassbreaks into thousands of pea sized pieces, as opposed to the shards of glass annealed glass breaks into.  Both tempered and annealed glass are used for glass table tops, glass shelves, and glass furniture tops.  One downfall to tempered glass is that because it breaks into thousands of pea sized pieces, it is much more likely to damage the surface of your table or floor when swept up, if the glass breaks. Tempered glass can have more flaws (fine scratches & distortion) due to the  tempering process of strengthening with heat.
